Bush foes eat their words

The article "Humbled Bush Foes Now Eating Their Words" was interesting to me. The article was about several people including, Robert Redford, that all made a big deal about how they did not want Bush to win the election. The people in the article were all set on moving to another country if Bush won, but no one ended up moving anywhere. When Redford's agent was asked about why he didn't move to Ireland like he vowed to, he responded by saying that Redford was never serious. Not being serious seemed to be the number one response when other people were asked why they never went through with their plans. The majority of people that said they would not stick around if Bush won said that they would go to Canada. Apparently after the election the web site for Canada's immigration did recieve many more hits than usual however, a spokesperson for Citizenship and Immigration said the request for visa applications remained the same. Overall I just thought that the article showed how much people can overreact to certain things.

Voting Day

Even with all of the hype over voting and how important it is to cast your vote, I'm not going to lie, I did not vote today. My reasons are many but the main one you ask? I just didn't know who to vote for. An article that I read today "Voters Face Scattered Problems" definatly didn't make me regret my decision to not vote. The article was interesting because it basically explained all of the problems, though little, that voters faced today. The article said that some people had to wait for more than one hour to cast their vote. Other little problems occured like electronic malfunctions in which paper ballets had to be issed instead, as well as the problem that some people faced, wheather or not the system recognized them as being registered. I understand that the system is not perfect, nor will it ever be perfect, but I am a little surprised that there were so many little problems. In my opinion there should not be so many problems involving such an important issue. But then again...who am I to talk, I did not vote while millions did. I am not critizing the system, because I can't and certainly don't have a right to, all I am doing is questioning it. I hope that in the future, when I actually do vote, things will have improved a little and waiting an hour to vote won't even be an issue. Until then, I will wait to find out the results in this election and not have a say in the results, because I didn't vote-and I'm definatly okay with it.

Flu shot lottery

I recently found an article from msn titled "New Jersey town tries flu vaccine lottery" that I thought was very interesting. Basically the article explained just how a town called Bloomfield, located in New Jersey, was distributing their last 300 flu shots. With all of the controversy regarding flu vaccinations recently I thought this article was very appropriate. Apparently a majority of the flu shots in Bloomfield were saved for older people, espesially the people who are very ill, health care workers, and pregnant women. The rest of the vaccines were distributed through a lottery. I think that it's an interesting way of doing things because it would seem to be the only fair way of doing things. With the exception of the people listed above there is no one person that deserves a flu shot more than another. If you don't get a flu shot go back to the way things were done before they were around, take vitamins, eat well, get enough sleep, wash your hands, etc. There is no need to get all worked up because they aren't as easily available this year. At least by doing it as a lottery a wide variety of people are going to recieve the vaccine, not just the people who got to be first in line; maybe Kansas City should consider doing things this way?

Vice President Debate

For someone who isn't interested in politics I thought the Debate between Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator John Edwards was very interesting. Something that I found very interesting was an article "They met- it just wasn't memorable". The article was about Vice President Cheney claiming that he had never met Senator Edwards until the night they debated. I am totally neautral when it comes to who should be elected, because I don't favor anyone more than the other. I am not trying to bash Vice President Cheney but I think it is funny that he had no recolection of meeting Senator Edwards, when Senator Edwards claims that they meet several times. There are even pictures of the two standing next to each other. Not only was that humerous to me, but I also heard another thing that made Vice President Cheney sound not all together that night. While driving to school I heard from a local radio station that during the debate Vice President Cheney told people to check what he had just said on a website called factcheck.com. Apparently he meant to say factcheck.org (which is a website that doesn't favor either candidate) because factcheck.com is a huge anti-Bush website. In a way I feel sorry for the guy because of these very noticable mistakes he made. I just hope the man can get his act together for the debate in St. Louis, for everyone's sake.

Terror on Election Day

Apparently we have some concerns about terror on election day "U.S. Worries Over Election Terror Threat". I would have to agree that we definatly have to be watching our backs. No, I am not afraid that we will have another attack; however, election day would be a great day (in the mind of a terrorist, not my own) to have plan some sort of attack. Any thing is possible. Something could happen today, next week, or on election day. There is no substantial evidence saying that something might happen, I guess election day would just be considered a high risk day.
I am comforted by the fact that we are taking more percautions than usual. As stated in the article the FBI has been assigning more and more people to more and more investigations. Not only that but authorities are paying more attention to things as well. Precautions are being taken and I am aware of that, so in turn, I am not fearful. September 11 was an awful day that will never be forgotten but at least through that terrible tradgedy we have all learned something. President Bush, FBI, etc are all doing what they can to keep us safe, they learned that we needed to change things, and for the most part we have changed things. Only time will tell, but I am not concerned about terrorists on election day, my concern turns to who is elected President.

Parents

The definition parents is more and more becoming a word that is being abused. I would think that the term parents would be defined as a man and a woman resposible for a child or children with whom they bring up while loving and caring about the child. That may not always be the case; but most of the time it is the definition of parents. The reason I say that the word is being abused is due to the uproar of gay marriage which is leading to an uproar of same-sexed couples adopting children both young and old.

People of the same-sex should not be able to adopt children for many reasons. By same-sexed couples adopting children they aren't giving the children a chance to have even a semi normal life. A child shouldn't have to worry about what other people are thinking, or even saying about them because of their family. A child shouldn't have to be responsible for carrying the burden of their "parents" desicion to be gay, because so many people are against it. Why should a child be put through all of these things. It is one thing to grow up in a family where you have parents who get divorced and one of them becomes gay. Because the child at least has a sense of what a mom and a dad are. A child growing up in an adoption agency should have the opportunity to be adopted by a man they can call dad and play catch with and a woman to call mom to go shopping with. Parents should involve two people, a man and a woman.
